I find that not all Chinese can speak mandarin very well. Take my friends Xiao Zhang for examply, he has a strong aouthern accent.
汉语的声调很重要， 举个例子来说， 把 “一”说成 “姨”，意思就完全不一样了。
hàn yǔ de shēng diào hěn zhòng yào ， jǔ gè lì zǐ lái shuō ， bǎ “ yī ” shuō chéng “ yí ”， yì sī jiù wán quán bù yī yàng le 。
The tones of Chinese are very important. For examply, if you say "一" as “ 姨 ”, the meaning will by compeletly different.
* "一" means one; "姨" means aunt.
